Some Sad News and Some Glad News

First the sad news, here is an excerpt from an email mom received yesterday.
"Cpl Jordon Pierson of Milford, Connecticut was Killed In Action on Friday, August 25, 2006 at the age of 21. Cpl Pierson honorably served along side the Marines of Charlie Company 2nd Platoon. Cpl Pierson was said to be "a bring spot in his platoon" as well as "a leader among Marines". Cpl Pierson is undeniably sorely missed and will always hold a dear place in the hearts of those involved with Charlie Company 1/25."

Please add Cpl Pierson and his family to your prayers.

The good news is, we received word that Erick is scheduled to leave Fallujah on September 25th. We are in the last leg here and cannot wait to get him HOME! 29 days and counting.

An Excerpt from 1st Sgt. Grainger's Blog

(I know I posted this bumper sticker a while back, but I still get a kick out of it.)

The Marines continue to press on. We are taking the fight to the insurgents daily and they continue to dwindle in numbers as the city takes back its streets from them. The new power lines continue to get laid and more and more of the foundation to get this city running on its own is being laid. School is out here, just like back home, so that is allowing the workers to continue easily on finishing and opening the other four they are working on. It also means the kids are out to swarm us for toys and school material every time we go out. So many stories we are reading about the insurgents wanting the city back, or the insurgents this or that. As Marines we only have one thing to say: Bring it on, anytime you want to play like men. Men don’t hide behind women and kids. Of course most of this is hot air that the media gives credit to by even entertaining. I know, have to have ratings.
.
Do not send any mail after Sept. 15. Remember, no rumors, that is just a date that works well into the plans here. (I believe this means they are on track to come home in October!!!)

LCpl Kurt Dechen

One of Erick's closest friends, squad member and bunkmate, LCpl Kurt Drechen was killed on Thursday when their squad came under attack while on Patrol. (Kurt is the one with the huge smile who Erick is using as a pillow.)
Erick told mom that the fighting in Fallujah has been picking up because refugees are fleeing Baghdad and coming into Fallujah. With this influx of people there has been an increase in violence.
Please add Kurt and his family to your thoughts and prayers and say a few extra prayers for Erick.
